INTRODUCING

By Patricia Morales Cid de León

If you and I are going to start this Podcasting relationship on the right foot, I think you deserve to know where my trip is coming from and the most honest way to explain my labyrinth is by introducing you to David.

David likes: trains, spaghetti and music, specifically, cumbia, to what degree you ask? burst your eardrums, is the answer. My mom tells me that my first word was "dad" but my first phrase was "not that David". You can picture the dynamics in my family.

David was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and autism at the age of five, just before I was born. And just as Gen Z and Generation Alpha only know the world with Internet, well I only know the world with my brother.

From a very young age, and thanks to him, I witnessed ignorance and cruelty, but above all I saw empathy and courage. Especially from my mum.

Life dealt me more cards and my game became unsurprisingly feminist. what did you expect?

It started as it does for many, with ordinary machismo: mild, constant and camouflaged micro and macro sexist behaviour everywhere, you know, because silly me, I was born a woman.

As it happens, David calibrated me perfectly to detect this… BS. I saw them coming a block away. But this time I was the target, and I learned what it was like to automatically be treated differently just for being who you are.

Time passes and yeah, there’s a plot twist, I realize that I cruise on Cis Gender Woman Avenue corner with Latina Boulevard, however, there are those who walk on Latina, indigenous, gay, single mother, illiterate and deaf crossing. Change gears and slow down sister.

Of course, that does not mean that my road is not difficult, but it would be an outrage not to distinguish that there are those who carry many more obstacles.

A simple proposal arises, what if we notice our privilege (however big or small) and use it in favour of someone more vulnerable? Someone helps you, you help someone else and we all pull each other up a little. And no, you really don't have to be a canonised, genius, vegan to act.

From this trippy trip my podcast was born, this year I had the opportunity to become a full-time imperfect Feminist and along the way I was accompanied by numerous and generous voices that from their trench do their own hustle to pull us up. Each episode, one more tug.

I invite you to listen, reflect but ultimately to act. So, welcome to "QuasiFeminista"

With love, for David
